Quick Thoughts
American Express offered a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic a few months ago when it was one of the dozen partners they were offering a transfer bonus on. It’s therefore great to see this bonus make a return so soon.
Having said that, I’d be cautious if deciding whether or not to transfer some points over speculatively. With the Omicron variant starting to spread, we might see some kind of international travel restrictions be put in place. I’m from the UK and was planning a trip back home in the spring, but we’re holding off on booking anything right now in case travel bans or other restrictions are implemented.
On the positive side, if you did decide to make a speculative transfer, at least there’d be no risk of your points expiring. That’s because Virgin Atlantic made some changes to Flying Club last year, one of which was that you now collect Virgin Points rather than miles and those points never expire. The bigger danger is therefore that there’d be a devaluation before you have a chance to redeem your points.
Provided there isn’t a big devaluation, Virgin Atlantic has some great sweet spots.
n.b. It initially looked like this was a targeted offer. My wife and I each had it showing up on our accounts when logging in this morning, but Greg wasn’t seeing it on his account. However, when logging in on his phone the transfer bonus showed up there, so it might’ve been some kind of cookie/caching issue.
