Quick Thoughts
Chase offered this same transfer bonus to Marriott at the end of last year. As I mentioned in that previous post, a 50% transfer bonus to Marriott isn’t as good value as it sounds. That’s because unless you come across award nights with outsized value, you’ll likely only be getting ~1-1.2cpp of value from your Ultimate Rewards.
Another scenario where there’s a slight chance that it would make sense to take advantage of this transfer bonus is if you’re short of miles to book an award with an airline that isn’t a transfer partner of transferable currencies (e.g. Alaska Airlines). Marriott transfers to a wide range of airlines on a 3:1 basis and adds 5,000 bonus miles when transferring 60,000 points. That means that you could transfer 40,000 Ultimate Rewards which would become 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points which would become 25,000 miles in another airline program. 40,000:25,000 is still a very poor ratio, but if you’re 25,000 miles short of a high value flight award and have no other way of topping up your account, it could be worth it.

Looks like it’s back up
Seems most useful if you were at 54K marriott but so annoyed at them that you wanted to transfer to Alaska or JAL or something, and be done with Bonvoy. Transfer 4K UR, now you can get 25K miles on almost any airline. Topping off is almost the only good use for this.
At 100% bonus we’d be cooking with gas
Useful also for topping up FN certs. I’ve got a few expiring end of this month, and my point balance is very low, so this will come in handy.
