Quick Thoughts
Air Canada Aeroplan has some great potential deals, particularly for Europe in business class from the East Coast of the United States. For instance, it is possible to fly from New York to Frankfurt in business class for 60,000 Air Canada Aeroplan points one way. With the bonus, that route works out to 48,000 transferred points, assuming a 25% transfer bonus. Keep in mind that the 25% bonus requires transferring at least 175,000 Ultimate Rewards points.
The bonus gets more compelling yet for Aeroplan cardholders. If you have a Chase Aeroplan credit card, you can get a 10% bonus that stacks. In other words, if a Chase Aeroplan cardholder were to transfer 175,000 Chase Ultima Rewards points to Air Canada Aeroplan, they would end up with 236,250 Aeroplan points. That’s an excellent deal.
I also love Air Canada Aeroplan for complex bookings. For instance, during our 3 cards 3 continents competition, I flew a complicated 5-airline, six-country itinerary from Washington DC to Cebu, Philippines, that included stops where I did things in Cairo, Istanbul, Oman, Bangkok, and Singapore (on a single one-way award over the course of several days). Read more about that here.
While I wouldn’t recommend speculatively transferring, this bonus could certainly make sense for someone who is on the hunt for Air Canada Aeroplan points.
We have added this to our Current point transfer bonuses page.
Best uses of Air Canada Aeroplan points
- Add Stopovers for 5,000 miles: There's great value in the Aeroplan due to the ability to add a stopover on a one-way award for 5,000 additional miles, making it possible to combine two destinations on one award.
- Lap Infants: Lap infants are just $25 CAD or 2,500 miles per direction (far cheaper than what most programs charge).
- Travel within US and Canada: Aeroplan awards start between 6K to 22.5K miles each way in economy class or as low as 15K miles each way in business class within US and Canada
- Business Class to Asia and the South Pacific: Flights to Asia and South Pacific range from 55K-105K one-way in business class (plus 5K miles for a stopover), which can be a particularly good value for awards combining Asia and the South Pacific in one itinerary.
- Business Class to Africa (with a stopover in Europe): Flights to Africa can vary between from 60K to 100K in business class based on distance (add 5K miles for a stopover within Africa or Europe).
- Explore remote Canada for far less (Northwest territories for cheap!). In some cases, Air Canada only charges 12.5K miles one-way to remote stretches of Canada. See more here.

Any guesses on if Amex is ever going to offer a transfer bonus to Aeroplan again? They used do them periodically but last one was in 2022.
What is going on with Air Canada right now? They have disappeared from seats.aero which is referring to an “outage” and all the routes I had been tracking from Bangkok to Chicago through Aeroplan had seen a HUGE price jump in the last week. I got in for 87.5K in lie flat business just before that happened so I am personally safe for the time being, but I am worried if this is more than a one route thing. I’ve never seen a transfer bonus like this before and it makes me excited, but also maybe nervous this is a signal of an increase in pricing overall.
I think that’s probably a false alarm. I was just searching to Europe today to potentially change an upcoming trip and I was still finding the award pricing I was expecting.
Any price jump would probably be because of some part of that being on Air Canada or United, which both feature dynamic pricing at this point. Awards on most partners follow the chart as far as I can tell.
I don’t know anything about what’s up with seats.aero.
I certainly hope so. I didn’t check for other routes so I am relieved your experience doesn’t duplicate mine on this route, although the routes that I was tracking were generally operated by Thai Airways and Lufthansa and always appeared to track the chart before, and then suddenly nothing. Some VERY tempting offers on Air Canada right now and I am still licking my wounds from not transferring AMEX to Hawaiian to Alaska (which, for the record, FM did advise me to do “if you have an upcoming trip to Asia,” which was exactly my situation!!!). Live and learn. Earn and burn!
Nice of Chase to have this bonus go beyond new year so those who already maxed out the 10% CC bonus this year can do so again
This definitely is worth a speculative transfer… i’ll be transferring 250k on January 1. It should yield 337.5k AP.
I’m probably on the same page. But man Chase has been tightening the belt on easy UR earnings so it has my questioning using them.
