Air Canada’s Aeroplan has announced that they are extending free cancellations on award tickets. Members can cancel free of charge through June 30th and receive all of their Aeroplan Miles back in their account, plus a full refund of any associated taxes, fees and surcharges on the unused value of travel. This policy applies to both new and existing bookings through June 30th, which is a solid deal in uncertain times.

Air Canada reached out directly with this news, which can be found here on the Aeroplan site.

Additionally, points expiration has been paused through June 29th. If you have points that ordinarily would have expired between now and June 29th, they will not expire until June 30th. You’ll want to be sure you either make a transfer from Amex or Capital One or earn some shopping online between now and then to reset your expiration for 12 months.

Also keep in mind that you can earn the first tier of Air Canada Altitude status with a transfer of 50K points. You have to register for the promo and make the transfer by May 31st. See that post for more info.

Overall, this is great news for those looking to book awards for late summer or early fall travel since you’ll likely have an idea by June 30th as to whether or not those trips are feasible. It’s even better news for those who booked long ago and can no longer travel (whether due to personal precaution or government restrictions).

Good news, thanks. My points expiration is still showing June 10…doesn’t look like they updated that yet.
