The Flying Blue Promo Awards are out for April and several US routes to Europe are on sale: economy tickets to Europe from Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles are now available for 25% off “regular” prices. Business class flights from Houston are also 25% off. Depending on which city you pair with these US gateways, you could fly to Europe for as little as 16,125 miles — or even fewer if you take advantage of a current point transfer bonus from Chase. Fuel surcharges can be mildly awful for both Air France and KLM, so the $200 off $1000 Amex offer going on right now could useful if booking a ticket with multiple passengers.
Note that these tickets can be changed/cancelled free of charge, making speculative booking much safer.

Quick Thoughts
Flying Blue promo awards can be a very useful way to get between the US and Europe, if you can get discounted/saver pricing. It’s worth taking a look at cities beyond those listed as oftentimes pricing will go down across a broad swath of US-Europe routes.
For instance, on August 3rd, there is availability for Houston to CDG in Business for 49,375 miles. Changing the search from Houston to Rome results in a much lower fare of 39,750. If transfering from Ultimate Rewards, you can get business class from IAH – Rome for 30,000 points.
That’s a marvelous deal for Business to Rome…and below what the “official” sale price is.
If you switch over to booking from Dallas on the same time period, you’ll notice lots of base 55-56K availability…that wasn’t there a few days ago. You’ll also find some terrific deals to normally pricey airports, a la DFW-Dubrovnik for 55K (or 44K UR):
There are some great values out there, especially with the transfer bonus, so it’s worth poking around if Europe is on your mind for this Summer. If you find something great, let us know in the comments!
Booked JFK-CDG in October for 46000 UR points plus $210. Great value since It’s the exact date needed. P2 will pay cash otherwise. Thanks for the info.
Nice! Well done!
Are the intra-European flights available round-trip? For example, will Paris to Madrid include Madrid to Paris?
They are indeed.
@ Tim — All of my searches from the promo page return the following: “Unfortunately, there are no Promo rewards available for your destination this month. Nevertheless, you can book a regular reward to your destination via Air France or KLM”
That’s strange. The promo fares are loaded into the general seach engine, so you can book directly from the main landing page. Still, I’ve never encountered that error message before…
i’m getting the same message
