American Express has come out with a new offer on its Bonvoy Business card that could be quite valuable for someone who’s able to maximize the use of free night certificates at properties that ordinarily cost 50K points per night. The new offer gives 3 free night certificates worth up to 50,000 points each after spending $6,000 on the card within the first 6 months.

Quick Thoughts
The FM Team typically prefers points over free night certificates. However, Marriott has some great properties at the 50K level. It wouldn’t be hard to get several hundred dollars in value with redemptions of those certificates, which might make this offer a great deal if you’d otherwise going to use points at those properties. They’ve also become easier to use at the high-end since Marriott began allowing members to top them off with up to 15,000 points (per award). Now, they can effectively be used towards properties up to 65,000 points.
The previous offer on this card was 75,000 points, but that was only on $3,000 in spend. This offer doubles the spend and the points, but ties those points into less-flexible certificates. It’s worth noting that the consumer Chase Bonvoy Boundless card has the exact same welcome offer of 3 free night certificates, but for only $3,000 minimum spend.
I’d probably not jump on this offer without a plan for how to use the certificates since they expire in a year. However, if you do know where you’ll use those certs, this could be a solid deal.

Do we know if it really takes 8-12 weeks to get the free night certs?
I wish Marriott would loosen up on the restriction for having multiple Marriott CCs. You can have multiple Hilton CC and I have 3 different IHG CCs.
I wish amex would improve MR to bonvoy transfer rate to 1:1.5(what is was pre merger) or 1:2 as it is with hilton.
Even a periodic 50% transfer bonus like Chase is running right now would be good! Historical bonuses show AMEX is usually 30% or less which really limits the value in transferring to Marriott.
Not really a Marriott thing, but more an agreement between Chase and AmEx. The rules sort of force you to pick a horse and stay with it. However, if you pick AmEx, you can get 3 different SUBs within a fairly short time (the Biz Bonvoy, the Brilliant, and the Bevy). With Chase, you only have two (the Boundless or Bold and the Bountiful).
