Chime has increased their ever-present Swagbucks offer, and it’s now $300 (30,000 SB) on new accounts.  Chime is an app with a debit card tied to an online checking account without any particularly noteworthy spending bonuses.  I signed-up for this offer when it was 25,000 SB last month and so far so good.  While the SB don’t show as pending on my account, there are multiple DP’s that indicate that it never does and requires you to open a ticket with SwagBucks after the indicated 70-day waiting period.  It seems like the success rate is very good after opening the ticket, but it’s worth considering whether the hassle is worth it to you.

Quick Thoughts

Nick (who prefers the moniker “Bank Bonus King“) wrote about a Chime MyPoints offer as part of a great post that covered easy cash bonuses.  While the MyPoints offer he wrote about is still available, I personally prefer this SwagBucks offer, because the points can be turned into cash via PayPal (30,000 points = $300).

I don’t ever do deals that require me to actually change direct deposit information, but in this case there are other options. Doctor of Credit has a very useful page listing data points of what counts as a direct deposit with Chime, and my primary bank is one whose transfers are acknowledged as DD by Chime.  If I didn’t have access to one of the options DOC lists, I most likely wouldn’t bother with it.

The entire process takes less than five minutes and there is no hard pull.  This screen that pops up is worth noting:

Don’t auto-agree as the bottom two options will enroll you in a secured credit card that you almost surely don’t need.

Be aware that there have been numerous reports of Chime closing accounts with no reason given. Reading into it now, it seems like most of the shutdowns involved multiple referrals.  Just to be safe, I only “direct deposited” $267.22 in my account and am not make any referrals while I have a balance.

I can confirm that I never received my bonuses with either MyPoints or Swagbucks until I reached out to customer support, then they were applied nearly immediately. Slightly shady, but it worked.

Singup was super quick, waiting on the SwagBucks to post when the deposit hits. The interface is actually pretty slick

I need some advice on Chime wrongful doing while I was a client i started banking with in October 2021 my pension was direct deposited every month until I discovered unauthorized charges on my account I filed a claim and. Had my debit card canceled and ordered a new one there was 98 unauthorized charges I filed on mean while im waiting on my new card my pension came and I couldn’t use my account because of no card while im still waiting I went to check.my account and discovered two more unauthorized charges now my card is canceled so I filed another claim and Chime acted like they didn’t give a crap about my account being tampered with a couple day’s later whi expecting to be reimbursed no investigation took place they closed up both claims and told me they denied both claims and I was ass out on my money I thought this unjust as a client and I had to do without for two months without any money for rent food bills nothing chime is a crooked and don’t give a fuck bout helping a client who had their money stolen from my account this wrong uncaring and full of bullshit I need some advice on what to do to get my money back I filing a police report talking to lawyers . I need some help desperately don’t know how to handle this problem all advice is welcome

Aren’t PayPal and other Financial apps now required to report all collective payments over the entire year greater than $600 with a 1099? If you get a bonus paid through Paypal and have more than $600 paid out, I believe you would get one and have to pay taxes on that amount, correct?

chris

They have to report it but it does not automatically mean you need to pay taxes. Such as for ebay I sell used stuff I had around my house, its considered a “tag sale” type of transaction since its less them what I paid. I might offload a thousand dollars worth of tag sale items (loss vs what originally paid) but it does not mean I owe taxes on it. Sale for paypal, I might get bunch of rebates and such sent to me via paypal but it doesnt mean I have to pay taxes on it.

Susan

I just followed up with SB from my Nov transaction. The SB were deposited shortly after I uploaded screenshots. FYI my DDs were Chase push.

Captain Greg

Don’t the DD’s say “chase?” They gave you the $ anyway?

Susan

Yes it did and yes they did.

Captain Greg

Excellent!

I signed up for this offer back in middle of January of this year. Do I need to direct deposit $200 to get the Swagbucks bonus ?

chris

My offer said within 30 days a deposit had to me made

Oren

Classic Swagbucks. I signed up before December deadline… Dec. 29. I had a true Direct deposit which shows up as “EMPLOYER, payroll”. On 1/4/22.

Theres a weird pending sticker in my activity log for SB, but it doesn’t actually show up as 25000 SB pending. I’ve already submitted a ticket but who knows.. Hopefully it actually posts… but for $250 I’d say it’s worth the time.

Tonya

I did this with my points several months ago. It never went pending but the bonus posted when the description said it would.

Oren

My bonus just posted today too! Glad it worked. 25000 is a pretty sweet deal for a few min of work.

Captain Greg

Do not expect this to work unless you have a real DD. It seems like no one has gotten the bonus without it for the past few months (including me and P2). If you try to file a claim with swagbucks and submit an image from your chime account, it says “chase” or “sofi money” for your deposits so it’s clear you didn’t do a real DD.

Miguel

Just for clarification, the post said that deposits from the banks listed at https://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Frequent%20Miler%20%28Instant%29#Chime are recognized by Chime as direct deposits and will trigger this offer.

Are you saying that is not the case anymore and this list is outdated?

Captain Greg

Yes, that is what I’m saying. P2 and I tried deposits from both chase and Sofi, but the points have been pending for months. I just submitted a ticket, but I’m sure they will ask for a screen shot. That will make it very clear that I did not do DDs. That said, there is a comment above from Susan who said that she submitted screen shots of deposits from chase and swagbacks gave her the points! So, maybe it’s possible. I think you should be prepared to have to follow up if you pursue this bonus, and understand that there’s a good chance you won’t get it if you do a fake DD. Read the the comments on the DOC post about this bonus.
