There’s currently some great award availability on Aer Lingus if you’d like to fly to Dublin in business class.
The Deal
- Book wide open award availability in business class to Dublin on Aer Lingus.
Key Terms
- Fly from multiple US cities throughout the next year.
Quick Thoughts
Thrifty Traveler notes award availability from several US cities including New York JFK, Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto. The cheapest way of booking these flights should be directly with Aer Lingus at Avios.com. Good luck with that though because when trying to search for award availability there I kept getting the dreaded ‘Avios.com redirected you too many times’ error message. In the past that’s been an issue when trying to get to the search page in the first place, but this particular search page seems to bypass those issues when trying to originate a search. I was still successful in getting to that page, but when actually running a search it gave that ‘too many redirects’ error message.
I did run a couple of searches for award availability on the British Airways website which did indeed display some of that award availability for non-stop flights from JFK to Dublin.
The problem with booking with British Airways Avios though is that the taxes and fees are much higher than with Aer Lingus. With Aer Lingus you’re looking at 50,000-60,000 Avios (depending on time of year + ~$150 per person to Dublin. With British Airways on the other hand you’re looking at similar pricing in terms of Avios, but much higher taxes and fees of more than $730 per person.
If you happen to know of a good trick to avoid getting the Avios.com redirection error message when conducting searches, please let us know in the comments!
As for accommodation, we loved our stay at the Hyatt Centric The Liberties last summer – see my review here.
I was able to after I logged in avios.com with my Aer Lingus login.
I finally got the search to work, but I’m curious if anyone is seeing availability from either BOS or JFK to DUB with more than 2 seats in biz class?
Found out of bos 4/15-4/27, but on ibera metal with $3,6k in taxs and fees
Had a trip to Ireland planned already and was able to grab J on the outbound leg and went with economy for the return. 63k + $250 in taxes for the RT. Thanks for the heads up! Avios.com was a headache (ironically tried to autocorrect to avoid) but was able to get through eventually
Can’t get avios.com to work. AirLingus site doesnt seem to offer a place to book with Avios. IberiaPlus also not working. Is Avianca Lifemiles also an Avios currency-No luck with any:(. Been dying to make this trip-HELP!
Can’t book rewards flights on Airlingus site, you have to use avios.com. Maybe try a different browser or clearing cookies. Working just fine for me right now on cell w/ firefox
I got via AS SEA-CDG/ 60k + $6 Heathrow-SEA 60K $270 ( the dreaded Heathrow surcharges) There are some great pricing but you have to keep pounding till they pop.
Thanks for the heads up on this! Been looking to get back to Ireland since many of the great Aer Lingus sweet spots dried up years ago. Just booked a September trip for my wife’s birthday — outgoing through Alaska where I had *just* enough miles for the redemption and the return through Avios.com where I moved 100,000 points over from British Airways and had no trouble booking.
I started from aerlingus.com, logged in, went to award flights, got directed to avios.com and my searches were successful. Not sure if that is a one-time “glitch” or not. When I tried going directly to avios.com or using the link above, it was giving me errors.
Unfortunately, I could not find any Biz class availability from ORD in late March that would work for a spring break trip.
When I tried to do a search JFK-DUB to replicate Stephen’s find, it initially gave me the too many redirects error. I backed up to https://www.avios.com/us/en/my-avios, logged out, logged back in, and then the first couple searches worked. 50K + ~$135 eastward and 50K + $165 westward in mid-Sep. Then when I went to search ORD-DUB again, it gave me the error so I backed up again, logged out and logged in, then the search worked.
Thanks for that tip. I started from avios.com a few times and it just kept erroring out. Must be an site IT error.
I booked 4 biz class round trip tickets from PHL for 60,000 AS miles each way 3 weeks ago.
Just checked and AS has availability also. 60k partner biz JFK DUB in Sept.
