Update 1/11/24: This award sale is now live for IHG Platinum and Diamond elite members. Previously, it was limited to cardholders only.

It’s apparently IHG day. In addition to the Chase Offers and SimplyMiles offers, IHG is once again offering a 15% discount on award stays of 1-3 nights for cardholders, as well as those with Platinum or Diamond status.

This type of promo is particularly useful for those with a free night certificate from the IHG Select credit card which can’t be topped up as it increases the number of properties that it can be redeemed at.

IHG Award Sale 15% off

The Deal

  • Get 15% off award stays of 1-3 nights with IHG.

Key Terms

  • Offer valid January 8-14, 2024 for IHG credit cardholders.
  • Offer valid January 11-14, 2024 for those with IHG Platinum or Diamond status.
  • If using Points & Cash, the 15% discount will be applied to the cash portion of each available option. Only those Reward Nights booked by January 14, 2024 for stays during the period through February 22, 2024 qualify for the Offer.
  • Dates are based on the hotel’s time zone as identified on the participating hotel’s booking page at the time of booking.
  • The Offer is not available to use along with the “Fourth Reward Night Free” cardmember benefit when booking a stay of four (4) or more consecutive Reward Nights.
  • The Offer will be applied for eligible members booking three (3) or fewer consecutive Reward Nights.

Quick Thoughts

IHG has been running this offer 2-3 times per year for the last few years, but it’s always nice to see it make a return. While it’s a shame it doesn’t stack with the 4th night free benefit (due to it only being valid for stays of 1-3 nights), it comes at the perfect time as I needed to book a two night stay for mid-February which will now cost less.

This promotion is always most useful for people who need to use a free night certificate from an IHG Select credit card. That’s because those certificates are valid at properties costing up to 40,000 points for the night, but can’t be topped up. The 15% discount means that a property that previously cost 41,000-47,000 points can now be booked using one of those certificates.

For example, if you wanted to get away to San Francisco for Valentine’s Day, both the InterContinental Mark Hopkins and Holiday Inn Express at Fisherman’s Wharf would be too pricey for a certificate that can’t be topped up.

IHG Award Sale 15% off - San Francisco before discount

With the 15% discount though, both of those properties become available. Based on past experience, IHG doesn’t jack up the price of these stays before running these promotions, so it’s not like you’re being charged the rates they would’ve had just a few days beforehand.

Something worth noting is that if you run an award search without being logged in, if you subsequently log in from the search results page it won’t show the discounted pricing – you need to run the search again to get the 15% discount to show up.

Also worth noting is that this award sale is initially only available for cardholders. On Thursday January 11 it’s then opened up for those with Platinum and Diamond status. You only have until January 14 to book your stays at a reduced cost and it’s valid on stays through February 22.

Disappointing. I wanted to book INtercontinental Willard in Washington Dc for one anniversary night. I looked before and it was additional 2,000 points. Today it shows 5,050 points!!!! After promotion. Im platinum member. Seems like they inflated price to additional 13,000 points and gave me discount of 5,050 points now… what a joke….

When I changed search to look for a different day, the discount disappeared. Very cumbersome to have to log out and in repeatedly.
