Dan’s Deals has reported a terrific stacking deal as part of Amazon Prime Day that is possibly stacking even better than intended and thus brings the cost of a Kindle e-reader down to just $9.99.

How to do it:

Step 1) Click this link to see if you are targeted for this deal (our affiliate link)

Step 2) Click to “activate” on each of the yellow “Activate” buttons on that page

Step 3) Add this Kindle to your cart (Black, 6″ Glare-Free Touchscreen Display, Wi-Fi, Built-In Audible w/ Special Offers) — note that this is not a paperwhite, so the promo should theoretically only take $30 off.

Step 4) Proceed to checkout and use at least one Amex Membership Rewards point to pay. The price will come down to $9.99 before tax (taking $40 off instead of $30). Be sure to adjust the number of points you wish to apply. By default, mine was using the full $10.79 in Membership Rewards points. That’s a bad deal as you’re only getting 1 cent per point (you can do much better with strategic redemption). You want to apply a single point and pay the rest via a credit card or gift card balance.

Of course, if you’d rather get a Paperwhite, those are on sale as well. You could add any of the other Kindle versions linked on the promo landing page from Step 1 and apply the $40 off code to the paperwhite versions. In the non-paperwhite versions, it appears the $40 code is only applying to the black color linked above, but the others should take $30 off.

Any way you shake it, these are solid deals if you are looking for a dedicated e-reader. Personally, I don’t read electronic books often enough to justify an e-reader, but several family members have them and love them. I’m adding a link to this post to this morning’s Prime Day Deals post, which has a running list of deals at both Amazon and other major retailers today.

I used the offer twice and got two kindles for $20. Great deal. Thanks for the tip.

Also great – if you took advantage of the $10 off $10 at Whole Foods for being a Prime Member, it’s an entirely free Kindle – you don’t even have to apply any Amex points.
