My experience with Amex has been very good recently. Way better than the powerless, poorly trained idiots at Barclay, WF, or BOA. Your first mistake was to start with chat. It’s documented on forums that they are powerless for this request. You need to call and ask for supervisor. I got four cards matched this way no fuss at all.
