There are a couple of grocery store promotions on gift cards coming up this weekend, including one at Kroger that could be especially lucrative and one at Albertons / Safeway / Vons / etc. that makes for a little easy free money + rewards.
Albertsons / Safeway / Vons / etc
The Offer
- Save $10 on the purchase of $100 or more in Visa Gift Cards
Key Terms
- Expires 6/3/17
- Must add the offer to your Just4U account
- Limit 1 per household
Quick Thoughts
Readers have reported that some stores sell variable load cards that can be loaded with up to $500. In that case, your best bet would be to use a card that earns a nice category bonus at grocery stores and buy a $500 gift card. You’ll come out a few dollars and a stack of rewards ahead.

Kroger is offering 4X fuel points on gift card purchases this weekend, 5/26-5/28.
The Offer
- 4X fuel points on gift cards
Key Terms
- Friday, Saturday and Sunday only
- Unlimited use
- Link to Kroger coupons
Quick Thoughts
According to Doctor of Credit, this one ought to work on fixed-denomination Visa, Mastercard, and Amex gift cards — and 1,000 fuel points usually earns $1 off per gallon up to 35 gallons. I don’t live near a store in this family of brands, but as this coupon is unlimited use, I imagine it would be possible to double dip by buying a Visa gift card and then using it to buy more gift cards. Of course, you lose out on the category bonus on your credit card when doing so — but if you can maximize the fuel points that may be a worthwhile trade. Remember that the Kroger family of stores includes quite a few brands.
Final Thoughts
Both of these are good offers that can yield nice rewards for your spend. If you live in the vicinity of either of these chains, make sure you add the applicable offer to your online account.

When someone has the definitive answer on whether or not 4x will work at Kroger with prepaid GCs, please post and let us know.
Only the $25, $50, & $100 ones earn the 4x fuel points. So I buy a couple of the $100 VGC and the fuel points earned outweigh the fees.
Thanks. It’s a bummer, but I guess I was thinking there were $500 fixed denomination ones; I guess those are only the variable-load ones. A 5% (if memory serves me) cost is pretty high in my book, so you’d have to get three $100 GC’s to earn more than one fill-up, at which point you’re paying ~$15 for a max savings of $35. This of course assumes you don’t have other GC’s you can use or need anyway; really wishing the big eBay GC’s would come back.
Hi, i think that i noticed you visited my blog so i came to return the prefer?.I am trying to find issues to improve my web site!I suppose its ok to use some of your ideas!!
