Quick Thoughts
We just raised the Reasonable Redemption Value for Marriott to .75 cents. In the wake of the dismembered award chart, many properties have actually gone down in price (while some have gone waaay up). So is this worth it?
Even with the transfer bonus, I wouldn’t recommend transferring Membership Rewards points to Marriott in most situations. Amex points are usually much more valuable for one to one conversion to airline miles. Do it only if necessary for topping up on the way to a high value Marriott award.
I just transferred 72k MR points to Marriott for the 25% bonus. 90k points covers a night at the St. Regis Rome where it’s listed as $1640 per night rate. Thats a 2.3 cpp sweet spot.
I am waiting for a bigger bonus later in the year. Usually they have a 50% or 100% bonus at some point. Otherwise I can wait.
Check out our Transfer Bonus page which shows both current and expired bonuses: https://frequentmiler.com/current-point-transfer-bonuses/
Bonuses to Marriott do regularly go up to 40 or 50 percent so yes it’s worth waiting if you can. (But there hasn’t been a 100% bonus since we’ve been tracking them)
Are people seeing the 25% bonus points posting at the same time? How quickly are Marriott points posting these days? Concerned about the “please allow 8 weeks for bonus points to post” language
Ok but if you want to transfer Marriott to partner airlines you could transfer 50000 MR points to Marriott and get the 25% bump or 62500 Marriott points. Then transfer at least 60,000 Marriott points to a parner airline and end up with 65000 airline points after the 5000 airline transfer bonus you get from Marriott for every 60000 points you transfer. That equates to a 30% bump in the original 50000 MR points you used to do this.
Your math is wrong and please edit or delete your post before you spread misinformation.
The transfer rate for Marriott to airlines is 3:1
Meaning for 60,000 Marriott points you would receive 20,000 airline points + 5,000 bonus.
Meaning your initial 50,000MR would net you 25,000 airline points via Marriott, a terrible conversion since most American Express airline partners transfer 1:1
You are correct, major oversight in my haste. Thanks for correcting this
