There is another increased offer for the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Mastercard: earn 75,000 miles after $5,000 in purchases within the first 5 months. In addition, the annual fee is waived for the first year. This is a 10K increase from the previous offer and matches the best that we’ve ever seen on this card (in terms of total miles).

Quick Thoughts

American Airlines is now a transfer partner of Citi ThankYou points, making AAdvantage Miles much easier to generate. However, the welcome offers on the various Citi-issued AA credit cards can still make them very appealing.

It’s worth noting that the AA consumer cards are all offering more than 75,000 miles as their welcome offers right now: the AAdvantage Executive card is at 100k, the Globe card is at 90k, and even the regular Platinum Select card is 80k miles after only $1,000 in spend.

That said, this business card offer won’t count toward your Chase 5/24 count, gives you 5 months to meet the $5,000 required minimum spend, and waives the annual fee for the first year. All together, that makes it a solid offer, especially if you’ve already received welcome offers on the consumer cards within the last 48 months.

If you’re in American AAdvantage, it’s worth taking a look at.

Citi Application Tips

  • 48 Month Rule: With most Citi cards, you can only receive a welcome offer every 48 months. This applies to the same exact card, not families of cards, and is counted from the date that you receive the welcome offer, not from when you're approved.
  • Velocity Limits: Citi allows a maximum of 1 card every 8 days and a maximum of 2 cards every 65 days (includes both business and personal cards).
  • Inquiries: Citi is thought to be more credit inquiry-sensitive than other issuers. We've heard reports that it's difficult to be approved for a new Citi card if you've had more than 6 hard inquiries within the last 6 months. That said, there are plenty of data points of people being approved despite being above that, so it's certainly not a hard-and-fast rule.
  • Card Limits: Citi doesn't have a strict limit on the number of cards you can have, but it does place limits on the total credit it will issue across all cards. Unfortunately, unlike most banks, Citi does not allow you to transfer credit from one existing card to another.
  • Application Status: Call (866) 606-2787 or visit this page to check your application status. For Costco cards, call (877) 343-4118.
  • Reconsideration: If denied, call (800) 695-5171 for personal cards or (866) 541-7657 for business cards.

@Tim Steinke – If I already have this CitiBusiness AAdvantage MasterCard open (the same card), if I apply for a second one (using the same business – in this case, as a sole proprietor), am I eligible to for the card and the bonus again?

(In my case, it has been more that 48 months since I received the bonus previously, and I have NOT applied for ANY other cards in the last 65 days…so I believe I meet all the other Citi card limitation criteria…Assuming one is not disqualified for any of those reasons, can one apply and receive the bonus a second time while still holding one of the same card?)

Dick Bupkiss

Thank you – appreciate the follow-up and the help. Cheers.

Bill

Do the miles earned go into the card owner’s personal AAdvantage account, or the business account? AA always specifies this card earns miles “for your business” and as part of the application they seem to require you either have an AAdvantage biz account or they sign you up for one. That verbiage has always made me hold back (do they at least let the card owner pool the miles?), so if anyone can clarify from personal experience I’d appreciate it.

Bill

Never mind – I got the answer elsewhere.

Alex

Is there a new DP if Citi are providing personal and biz CC for non-US passport and green card holders or voter registration card?

I applied for a CSP and got an mail that i need to provide one of those documents to be approved. Also called and have been told the same thing. As well saw 2 reddit post with the same issue.

Wondering maybe something change on their end.

Your tables says this card earns 2X on travel. That is not the case.

Greg The Frequent Miler

When a card offers a bonus for car rentals, flights, or hotels we put it in the table as “travel.” We realize that’s a problem and hope to break those out some day.

Andrew

Can you get this bonus under both SSN and again under EIN or does opening under one count towards the 48 month requirement for both?

Anyone know if approved for this card, does it give you an option to received a virtual card number before receiving the actual card in the mail? Hoping to make some tax payments on this card before April 15!

Casey

Yes it does give a virtual card number – got IA on it this morning.

Eric

Also instantly approved but no option for virtual number, just a message letting me know that mailed card will arrive in 5-10 business days…

mojo

Yes, it does.

As a data-point, when I tried to use my virtual # to pay property taxes, the charge was denied as “not on the list of approved charges for temporary virtual card #’s”

I read in another blog about applying with one EIN, wait 8 days (not spend for SUB yet) and then apply with another EIN, then spend for both SUBs to get both of them..

Normally we are not eligible for a second sub for 4 years, but this sounds like there is a back door.. Can anyone confirm?

Jen W

I just applied for this 5 days ago. Any idea if they will honor the new sub like some other banks do? I haven’t even gotten the card in the mail yet.

Johnny

Approved, THANK YOU, you guys da best!

jeph36

I decided to jump in, it has been just a little over 4 years since the last time I got a SUB on this card. And yesterday I just dropped 60K AA miles on biz-class ITM-HND/NRT-ORD for later this year. I also have some expenses right now that are annoyingly not payable with an Amex, as I continue to work on a SUB for another Biz Plat.
