Citi Application Rules
- 48 Month Rule: With most Citi cards, you can only receive a welcome offer every 48 months. This applies to the same exact card, not families of cards, and is counted from the date that you receive the welcome offer, not from when you're approved.
- Velocity Limits: Citi allows a maximum of 1 card every 8 days and a maximum of 2 cards every 65 days (includes both business and personal cards).
- Inquiries: Citi is thought to be more credit inquiry-sensitive than other issuers. We've heard reports that it's difficult to be approved for a new Citi card if you've had more than 6 hard inquiries within the last 6 months. That said, there are plenty of data points of people being approved despite being above that, so it's certainly not a hard-and-fast rule.
- Card Limits: Citi doesn't have a strict limit on the number of cards you can have, but it does place limits on the total credit it will issue across all cards. Unfortunately, unlike most banks, Citi does not allow you to transfer credit from one existing card to another.
- Application Status: Call (866) 606-2787 or visit this page to check your application status. For Costco cards, call (877) 343-4118.
- Reconsideration: If denied, call (800) 695-5171 for personal cards or (866) 541-7657 for business cards.

Recon line is useless. If you have multiple cards open with $0 balance and high CL’s & CS, don’t even bother applying.
I can’t get the link to work. Is 100k bonus dead now?
It’s still showing for me when clicking on the ‘Click here to learn how to apply’ link
Thanks for confirming! The link was working but it was the Apply Now button on the subsequent page that wasn’t working. The page wouldn’t load. But when I switched from my phone to my desktop, it worked.
Got an email offer for 100k SUB after $10,000 in spend. Considering.
Dead. 75k with $7500 spend now.
Stealth devaluation alert 🙁
They removed the $120 Avis/Budget credit for new cardholders who applied after 7/15. Existing cardholders still get it for 2024 and 2025. I emailed the chat transcript into the mailbag email.
There was no notice on this I’ve seen anywhere, no blogs seem to have posted about it, no notification to cardholders, and no apparent replacement to the credit. It is no longer in the terms or the promotional page for the card.
According to a Citi chat rep, cardmembers who applied prior to 7/15 still have use of this credit (So I presume this change was made on/around 7/15). For those cardmembers, it is still available for 2024 and 2025.
Pretty crummy change for a card that was just “refreshed” a year ago and this new credit was pulled in less time than that. I only have this card for the SUB and extra lounges (with plans to product change and rotate through it with P2 every 2 years) but this was the one credit added that wasn’t annoyingly coupon-y.
