Application Tips

Chase Application Tips

  • Shut-Down Caution: Signing up for new Chase cards can lead to Chase reviewing your accounts. This may lead to Chase shutting down all of your accounts if you appear to be a credit risk. See this post for details and recommendations: Why Chase shutdowns have increased and how to avoid them.
  • 5/24 Rule: With most Chase cards, you won't get approved if your credit report shows 5 or more cards opened in the past 24 months. Details here.
  • 24/48 Month Rule: With most Chase cards, you can get the same card and bonus again 24 months after having received the bonus as long as you no longer have the card open. With Sapphire cards, you must wait 48 months. No wait is required for Chase Ink cards.
  • 30 Day Rule: It is tough to get approved for more than 2 Chase cards within 30 days
  • Get Same Card Again: You can get the same exact card and again if you first cancel the older card and follow the 24/48 month rule. Ink cards are OK to get again without cancelling previous card if you apply with a new business.
  • Better Offers: You may be able to get a better offer than the best available public offer. Details here.
  • Hard inquiries combine into 1 when approved same day (not always true when mixing business and personal)

FYI the Boundless application link shows 3 x 50k FNCs instead of 125k points.

Stephen Pepper

Thank you – just fixed that.

FIphile

The referral links are now showing the 3 X 50k certs as the SUB. Looks like the 5 X 50k offer is expired?

D A

When does this offer expire

Erik

Just checked my referral link and it looks like it’s showing the 5 nights SUB as well, good for P2/friends.

ajax

do these free night certificates have an expiry i.e do we need to use it within a year ?

Nick Reyes

Yes, they are valid for 1 year from the date issued. Marriott no longer extends them.

Raghu

seems like the offer expired 🙁

Tim Steinke

Yep. None of the other links that I had are working now. Thanks for the heads up.

Rosie

I clicked on the apply link just now, and it went to the offer page with 5 certificates — so , is this live or not? Thanks! Rosie

Tim Steinke

Yep it’s live. The offer with 5 free night certificates is the current offer. You’re replying to a comment from a couple of weeks ago when it went away for a bit.

I’m curious if the free night certificates earned here can be used by another person?

The reason I’m asking is because I currently already have Marriott Gold Elite status until 2025 (through a status match), so status of this card is not much incentive to apply. Therefore, I was thinking of having my partner apply so that when he travels by himself he would have Silver status. However, when the two of us travel together, if we want to use these free night certificates, in this situation would he have to book or could I book with these certificates (therefore making use of my Gold as opposed to his Silver status)?

Ivan

I am looking to get Marriott Bonvoy Boundless. I have the Amex Bonvoy Business and the Amex Bonvoy Brilliant (I applied and was excepted same day). I received the welcome bonus for the Amex Bonvoy Business and Brilliant on 1/9/2022. Following the Marriott Chase/AmEx chart for eligibility, I would not be eligible for the SUB on the Chase Bonvoy Boundless unit after 24 months (so 1/10/2024). Am I able to apply for the Chase Bonvoy Boundless and just make sure I don’t hit the minimum spend before 1/10/2024 so there are no issues, or do I need to wait until after 1/10/2024 to apply for the card?

Jack

I was considering this offer, but already have a pretty full travel schedule in 2024 and given that the 50K certs expire in a year I’m hesitant.

There’s another offer out there for 50K points and a $250 Marriott gift card? Thoughts on the value of this alternate offer? I do understand that if I could fully use five 50K certs within a year that would be more valuable, but this other offer would be more flexible?

Jeff

So I applied via the 5 50K free night awards, got approved and finally got my welcome packet.

But the Welcome packet doesn’t say anything about the 5 50K free night awards.

Is this normal? Is there somewhere I can check to make sure I’ll receive those when I meet the spend requirement?

Stephen Pepper

You could send a secure message to Chase to verify the bonus offer on your application.

Jeff

Thanks Stephen. I will do that.

Jeff

Thanks for the tip Stephen. I sent Chase the secured message and they responded within 24 hours that I will indeed receive the bonus offer once I complete the spend requirements.

Stephen Pepper

Awesome, glad that they were able to confirm that so quickly

Frahan

Hey Jeff, did you end up getting the 5 FNs? Asking because there are some DPs in DOC of people doing the min spend but not getting the SUB (yet)

Jeff Shelton

Hi Frahan,

I haven’t yet, but my statement hasn’t closed yet where I will have met the spend requirement.

Plus I’m not sure how long those take to show up in my Bonvoy account after meeting the spend requirement. But I will report back when they get posted to my account

Jeff

EVW

How long do the 50k certs last once you get the card?

traveler

Did you find out if these have a expiration date? If not does somebody Know?

Tim Steinke

They expire a year from issue.

traveler

Thank you!

Brent

When I followed the link the best I saw was 3 X 50K…

Brent

Solved the problem. I had to use an Incognito window. It only gave me 3 X 50K until I did that.

Matthew

I couldn’t resist the 5 night offer. Our favorite staycation resort is rarely over 50k points so even in a worse case scenario we’ll still get good use out of them.

Dave

Can this certificate be use by another person? A relative for instance?

JayP

This link isn’t working (3x 50k night certs). Unless it’s just me.

Greg The Frequent Miler

Fixed. Sorry for the delay!
