Delta has several variations of Amex Offers out that give either $120 back on a $600 purchase or $100 off of a $500 purchase. The catch is that these offers only apply to two sets of routes: flights to/from Hawai’i from the West Coast (LAX and Seattle) and flights to/from Europe from the the East Coast (JFK and Boston).

I’m assuming that these are targeted specifically by geographic location as every single one of both my and P2’s Membership Rewards-earning cards were targeted for the Hawai’i offer. None of them received any love to Europe.

Quick Thoughts

Delta seems to be playing around with more Amex Offers that are only applicable to specific routes, as this comes on the heels of an earlier one was only good for flights that departed from NYC-area airports.

These more narrow offers (obviously) limit the utility for many folks outside of the targeted departure airports. If you live in Boise and want to take advantage of the Hawai’i offer, according to the terms you’d have to book a second positioning flight whose cost wouldn’t be covered by the Amex Offer.

That said, as some folks on Reddit have suggested, it should be possible to book a flight out of one of the qualifying airports and then cancel after 24 hours in order to bank the flight credit and fulfill the terms of the Amex Offer. If you go this route, make sure to wait for 24 hours, otherwise the purchase will be refunded to the original form of payment and it’s likely that the statement credit won’t post.
