Quick Thoughts
It’s been a minute since we’ve seen an Amex offer for IHG, which makes sense given that Chase issues all of IHG’s credit cards. While the terms officially exclude gift cards, normally these offers can be triggered by buying a gift card from the front desk of a hotel. That said, most IHG hotels won’t sell gift cards at the front desk, with the notable exception of Kimpton. Do be aware that Kimpton gift cards can’t be used at other IHG brands…just Kimpton.
If you have paid stays with IHG, this is an obvious winner and it’s widely targeted…I have it on almost all of my Amex Membership Rewards-earning cards. Be sure to register for IHG’s current promotion before your stay(s).
Other recent articles about IHG:
I’m assuming this will not work on a cash + points booking, as purchase of points is excluded…
But would appreciate any data points either way!
“…giving $40 back when you spend at least $200 across almost all of IHG’s brands.”
And you failed to mention the most important restriction: Valid only for hotels in the USA and its territories.
Weird…you don’t see it listed in the terms portion?
You didn’t think to mention it in the introduction, considering you wrote “almost all of IHG’s brands”? When 35% of IHG properties are excluded, you shouldn’t contradict yourself by writing “almost.” Yeah…”weird.”
Brands aren’t the same thing as properties. A brand refers to a specific line of hotels within the larger company (like Holiday Inn Express or Kimpton) and almost all of IHG’s brands are included. But thanks for the feedback and sorry it wasn’t clear!
I was worried I had the wrong terms saved, and you actually did not see them, that’s why I responded “weird.”
Yes. Brands are not the same as the number of properties, but it can be inferred that all properties are included because of what you left out in the intro. It’s clear from the comments that others thought it was most properties, including outside of US.
I have a FHR stay at a ihg property coming up in a few weeks in Portugal, I could use this offer for additional charges & even another hotel in portugal if i wanted to?
I just added the offer on my Platinum cars via the mobile app and the terms say “US and US territories”. Not sure if it’s the same offer for everyone. Bummer, the paid rate was a bit better than buying points for the stay I was going to make in Taiwan.
Got it on my ancient Blue
Does the stay need to be completed by 8/31? Or booked by then?
It has to be paid for by 8/31. It’s through AMEX, so it will be based on the charge(s) actually appearing on your credit card by 8/31.
Will it work on the purchase of ambassador status from ihg
That’s a really good question. My recollection is that it shows as IHG Ambassador Activation but codes as office and shipping, so I could see it not tracking or having to be manually added.
There’s nothing in the terms that would exclude it, necessarily.YMMV
Hey Tim, Any updates on this are we able to use it towards Ambassador status?
Did you try this Nipun? If so, did it work?
Not on our Platinum cards, but is on our Everyday cards. 🙁
