Quick Thoughts
If you’re planning a trip to Vegas, these offers are a great way to save up to 20%. Note that the two offers are eligible at different sets of brands – the $400/$80 offer is good at MGM’s cheaper properties, while the $700/$140 is only valid for stays at Bellagio and Aria.
Also keep in mind that the cost of your room rate doesn’t necessarily have to hit the $400 or $700 thresholds. That’s because charges to your room are also eligible for these offers – even if they’re charges at other MGM Resorts properties. For example, you could eat at Aria’s buffet and charge it to your room at Bellagio to contribute towards the $700 spend threshold.
One thing that I’m curious about is whether or not the $700 Bellagio/Aria promo can be stacked with Amex’s Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) program. I recently had a a marvelous FHR stay at the Bellagio using the Amex Platinum prepaid FHR credit. Prepaid FHR reservations show up as an OTA (online travel agency) booking at the hotel, but it seems that at least some FHR stays that are booked as “pay at hotel” don’t. The terms of the offer would seem to exclude FHR bookings, but I’ve seen some very old data points that suggest that, at least sometimes, these Amex offers can be triggered on an FHR “pay at hotel” stay. Would love to hear in the comments from anyone that has tried to do this within the last 2ish years and whether or not it was successful.
Not staying at MGM Grand in Vegas, but looking to book a cabana which would be through the MGM Resorts website. Any reason why this wouldnt work for that since that would technically be a ‘room charge’?
As usual, Amex terms state excludes gift cards. Anyone ever successfully used this promo in the past to purchase a gift card?
I haven’t heard of that specifically, but I’ve never heard of gift cards purchased through the front desk of a property not triggering credits.
Any ideas on extra things to charge to the room to hit $700? We’re staying at Aria now, but on a free room promotion. Even with all our meals charged to the room we’ll probably only be at around $500.
Gift card purchase?
charge drinks, gift shop purchases, etc
boo, Mirage is not included
Yes, boo, I realized this only after I completed my stay and it didn’t post credit after many days. I guess it had to do with the planned transfer of ownership to HardRock, but why MGM jumped the gun with this is beyond me.
Do these get Hyatt tier credit if booked through MGM to avoid resort fees?
Yes, as long as your Hyatt number is on the stay.
I simulated a booking using the MGM app. At no stage in the booking process did I have the ability to enter my WOH info.
Tim: Could you elaborate further?
You have to add your Hyatt number at the front desk,
If this is your first MGM stay, you will need to call the front desk when you check in to have them add your WOH number. If you have Globalist status with WOH, make sure you get MGM Gold status by linking your MGM Rewards account with WOH. There are no resort fees with MGM Gold, which they sometimes need to remove manually.
Thanks everyone. I will need a mattress run to retain my globalist status.
