Stacking deals to keep your cash, Globalist plans, how to use Chase Pay and more

With Black Friday just behind us and Cyber Monday lying ahead, it’s been a crazy week of deals and stacking shopping portals and gift cards and bonus categories (oh my!). As the weekend is upon us, we reflect on the week we’ve recorded here in the Frequent Miler week in review. Read on for the weekly recap.

Black Friday deals that caught my eye

Greg’s been following my Black Friday Deals Master Post and it sounds like I might be costing him more than just my salary. Here he points to some of the deals that piqued his interest and why. I can’t disagree — there were some intriguing deals that have come and gone, and some that are living on.

Black Friday Deals [Master Post w/ regular updates this week]

Black Friday has come and gone, but many deals will continue through the weekend and into Cyber Monday. I’ll keep adding big shopping and travel deals to the post as I expect we’ll see plenty of deals meeting or maybe even exceeding Black Friday heading into Monday.

$100 win at Amazon (20% off up to $500) w/ 1 Membership Rewards point

This one is a quick deal, but it’s such a big deal that it’s worth repeating here: targeted customers can receive 20% off (up to $100 off) when using at least one Membership Rewards point. This deal works on third party gift cards, already-discounted Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals, etc. It’s a nice win for those targeted.

How to use Chase Pay in-store 2018

a qr code and a credit card

Last holiday season, I wrote a short post on how to use Chase Pay in-store. When I tried using it, nobody knew what I was talking about. A year later, when I tried using it, nobody knew what I was talking about. However, this time I learned a little something. See my video experiments. The short story is this: cashiers might be able to / need to choose Chase Pay on their side to make it work.

Hot stacking deals on Tumi luggage

One more quick deal sneaks its way into week in review as it’s just that good. Portal payouts could change by the time this post publishes, but at the time of writing late last night Top Cash Back was offering 27.3% cash back — even better than the example in this post . You could end up with about half off of normal retail prices on some Tumi bags, making this a great time to buy if you’re in the market for a Tumi bag.

Best credit cards for Black Friday deals

While this post was conceived for Black Friday shopping, it is really an anytime resource for helping you choose the right card to maximize your rewards on whatever purchase(s) you need to make. This is one to bookmark for the next time you can’t remember if you have a card that bonuses A or B.

Amex product change via chat (it’s back and better than before)

If you’re looking to make an Amex product change and you would prefer to chat over calling, you’re in luck: not only can you do it via chat again, but it looks really fast as per Greg’s recent experience.

Does Chase 5/24 ruin my Hyatt Globalist plans?

It now seems clear: the Hyatt card is subject to 5/24 after all, which kind of lobs a wrench in the general direction of Greg’s plans if not really derailing him totally. It turns out he may actually be able to wait this out and open the card at just the right time to manufacture Globalist status. The irrational side of me wants to play along and do the same, but Hyatt’s footprint makes it really hard for me to justify. The vast majority of properties are Hyatt Place and Hyatt House. The relatively small number of hotels I’m excited about are almost exclusively in major cities. I like major cities and visit them a couple of times a year, but I’m with the commenters who think it just isn’t reasonable or rewarding enough to go after Globalist status.

That’s it for this week at Frequent Miler. Check back soon for our week in review around the web and this week’s last chance deals.
