$250 Annual Fee
FM Mini Review: This card offers an awesome return on US supermarket and worldwide dining spend, putting it at or near the top-of-class in both categories. Dining credits and Uber / Uber Eats credits go a long way towards reducing the sting of this card's annual fee.
Card Type: Amex Pay Over Time Card
Earning rate: 3X points for flights booked with airlines or on amextravel.com ⚬ 4x points at US Supermarkets (up to $25K in purchases, then 1x) ⚬ 4x at restaurants worldwide ⚬ 1X points on other purchases. Terms apply. (Rates & Fees)
Noteworthy perks: Up to $10 in statement credits monthly with participating dining partners (Goldbelly, Wine.com, Milk Bar, Shake Shack, Seamless/Grubhub, Cheesecake Factory) ⚬ $10 monthly Uber or Uber Eats credit (use it or lose it each month) ⚬ $100 hotel credit on qualifying charges on stays of 2 nights or longer, plus a room upgrade upon arrival, if available with The Hotel Collection at americanexpress.com/hc ⚬ Enrollment required for select benefits.
Rewards
Amex Membership Rewards points can be incredibly valuable if you know how to use them. In general, if you use Membership Rewards points to pay for merchandise or travel, you won't get good value from your points. One exception is with the Business Platinum card where you'll get a 35% point rebate when using points to book certain flights. This gives you approximately 1.5 cents per point value, which is pretty good. Another exception is with the Business Gold Card where you'll get a 25% point rebate when using points to book certain flights. This gives you approximately 1.33 cents per point value. If you don't have either card, then your best bet is to transfer points to airline miles in order to book high value awards. More details can be found here: Amex Membership Rewards Complete Guide. |
Application Tips
Amex Application Tips
- Safe to Apply: Amex is the safest bank for trying your luck at earning a new welcome bonus offer. They don’t usually issue a hard pull when denying your application, and if you already have an Amex card, they won't usually issue a hard pull when approved for another one. Plus, they’ll now warn you during the application process if you’re not eligible for the bonus.
- Lifetime Rule: If you've ever had the same card before, you are most likely prohibited from earning a welcome bonus offer for the card if you apply now. Fortunately you'll be warned during the application process if this is the case. Amex is known to "forget" that you've had a card after about 7 years.
- 90 Day Rule: You can get at most two credit cards within 90 days. This rule does not apply to Pay Over Time (charge) cards.
- 5 credit card max: Amex usually won't approve applications for new credit cards if you already have 5 or more Amex credit cards or 10 or more charge cards.
- Better Offers: You may be able to get a better offer than the best available public offer. Details here.
- Hard inquiries combine into 1 when approved same day
Check application status here.

Are these links NLL?
I found that not to be the case with the first two (Pt and Gold offers)
No, they’re not.
My referral link for Gold shows the $200 offer but only 60k points
My referral link is for 90k on the gold. How can I share on this group?
I just used your link for the 90K AMEX Gold and it worked (from Oliver). Thanks so much!!!
Is 90k the highest pure points offer ever? Seems like I’m targeted with NLL.
@tim
I think there is a new 100k public offering for the gold card for 4k spend in 6 months.
Hi. RE: The 90K plus up to $250 statement credit-amex gold offer from “Thomas.” Would like to know if Greg and “Thomas” are one and the same person. Is it safe to click on the above link and apply for the gold card? Thanks.
It is safe but no we are not the same person. Only select people are lucky enough to have this referral offer available and so we collect the links from our Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group to use here. That way our readers get access to the best offers and group members with these “magic” referral links earn points.
I think the 90k referral offer is dead.
It still works for me
It worked for me, just tried and was accepted. Love the content Nick and Greg, keep up the great work!!!
Which should I go for – referral offer from P2 wherin they would get 30K and I would only get the 60K offer, or apply by myself for the 75K+$250 Resy offer? They seem to be about equivalent in total earnings from signup.
Tough call. The 30K referral bonus will be taxed so that might push you over towards the 75K + $250 offer (but only if you’ll easily earn the $250)
@Greg or Nick – So, I was planning to use my wife’s referral link for the Gold Card (+3 membership points for any $ she spends). However, the referral does not give 20% cash back on Restaurants upto $250. Have you seen this issue occur were the referral link offer is not as good as the public offer that’s available for Gold?
Yes, that’s why we aren’t listing a referral offer right now (and haven’t for many months on this card or the Platinum card). We always list the best publicly-available offer. The Resy offer for the Gold (and also the Platinum card) is the best current offer.
Thanks Nick!!!

Thank you!! I used your yellow ‘Click here to apply’ link for the Amex Gold and got the 50k bonus. That was after looking at my Amex online account card offer, it was 35k. Then I looked incognito, cleared cookies, etc.Still 35k. Returned to your article and your link provided 50k. I am like a dog with a bone…..now if I could only get the Virgin Atlantic site to work.
To clarify, I clicked on the yellow ‘More’, then on the next page I clicked the yellow ‘Click here to apply’.
Great!
Can I apply my AMEX GOLD $100 annual credit towards the early bird boarding fee on Southwest? I called AMEX customer service and southwest customer service (spoke with supervisor) and they didn’t know.
Yes. See this post for what works:
https://frequentmiler.com/amex-airline-fee-reimbursements-still-works/#Southwest
clicking thru the link here the current sign up bonus shows 40k. I have tried in incognito too.. was there another trick to get to the 50k landing page?
Yikes, we’ll fix this. Try browsing directly to Amex from a fresh browser instance to see if you’re targeted for 50K
Thanks for commenting. Interestingly, when I tried the link, it showed me the 50K offer. Greg saw the 40K offer that you’re seeing. I then tried a different browser and saw the 40K offer. It seems they have a couple of offers out there on the card.
Tried the fresh browser instance and that showed 35k!!
Interesting point on the 50k.. maybe its targeted? what browser did you use for the 50k offer?
I tried Safari on my macbook and saw the 50k. The previous 40k and 35k were also on the same macbook, but with chrome.
Thanks guys! Netted extra 10/15k!!
