Quick Thoughts

These are fantastic deals, particularly the points rebate offer. For the last few years, Hyatt has offered a points rebate for award stays during the summer, but that’s only been a 10% points rebate and was only available for Hyatt cardholders. This offer not only offers a 25% points rebate for cardholders, but even non-credit cardholders get a rebate of 15% of their redeemed points.

With past points rebate promotions, Hyatt has rebated points for stays during the promotion period even if they were booked before the promotion began. I initially thought that wasn’t the case here due to terms stating the following:

Only points redeemed between July 8 and October 8, 2020 (“Promotion Period”) will be eligible for this promotion.

However, in the ‘General Terms’ section of the offer it says the following:

For purposes of these offers, points are deemed redeemed upon checkout of a stay or completion of (and, if applicable payment for) the meal, experience, class, therapy, service or excursion.

That makes it seem like award stays booked before registration but which take place during the promotion period will be eligible for the points rebate. Your stay has to be completed by October 8 January 4 Feb 28 2021 though in order for it earn the rebate.

At the low end of the award chart, a stay at a category 1 property normally costs 5,000 points per night, so the net cost for cardholders after the rebate will be 3,750 points (or 4,250 for non-cardholders).

At the high end, category 7 and 8 award stays normally cost 30,000 and 40,000 points respectively, so those are reduced to 22,500 and 30,000 points respectively for cardholders which are great deals if you have your eye on any of Hyatt’s luxury properties. For non-cardholders, the net cost will be 25,500 and 34,000 points respectively which is still a solid offer.

Another important feature to note is that there’s a limit for how many points can be rebated per stay. For non-cardholders you’ll get back up to 30,000 points per transaction, while cardholders can get back up to 60,000 points per transaction.

For a Hyatt cardholder booking a stay at a category 1 property, you could book a 48 night stay in order to max out that 60,000 point limit. For cardholders booking a stay at a 40,000 point property though, you’d max that out after 6 nights. If your length of stay somewhere would push you over the maximum number of rebated points per transaction, it might be possible to book two consecutive stays to continue receiving the rebate, although that might depend on whether the property merges your reservations.

This new promotion will presumably stack with their latest promotion offering 2,500 bonus points on your first stay (for members with any kind of status) and triple points thereafter. If you’re a Hyatt cardholder, that means you could book a one night stay at a category 1 property and only pay 1,250 points after the rebate and bonus points. That’s because you’d initially redeem 5,000 points for the stay but would subsequently earn a rebate of 1,250 points from the 25% rebate and 2,500 points if this was your first stay during the other promotion period.

Notwithstanding Hyatt’s other promotion, a 25% points rebate is an excellent offer and will likely mean I’ll be booking stays at Hyatt properties over the next few months. Most of our accommodation is booked through the end of August, but we have a week we need to book at the end of this month as well as nothing booked from September 1, so I’ll likely book us in at category 1 properties through the end of the promotion period on October 8 as it’s hard to pass up free nights for only 3,750 World of Hyatt points.

Free Parking

World of Hyatt members with Globalist status always get free parking on award stays, but that’s been opened up to all members with this promotion where parking can be charged to your room.

If taking advantage of this offer, be sure to check your bill when checking out. I have Globalist status and on the few occasions we’ve stayed somewhere that charged for parking, I’ve usually had to remind the front desk that the parking charges should be removed, so you might need to do the same if Hyatt doesn’t have their systems set up to automatically waive the fee on award stays.

Dining

Hyatt is also offering triple base points spent on dining at their properties. This bonus can be earned even if you’re not staying at the hotel; in fact, the bonus will only be earned when it’s not charged to a room. That’s presumably because you’d automatically earn triple points on dining when charging meals to your room due to their latest promotion.

This dining promotion seems to be run separately to the points rebate/free parking promotion and so it’s not listed on the registration page. One Mile At A Time has details about the promotion though and it doesn’t seem like it’s a different offer that requires registration.

I have a stay booked in Hawaii over Christmas. I booked it in May (after I could go travel then do to Covid). The same booking is no longer available so cancel/rebook is not an option. But looking at the FAQ’s indicates that previously booked award should qualify for the rebate. Let’s hope that’s true, and that travel is still allowed then. I am way overdue for a vacation!

From FAQ:
7.   If I previously booked a stay using points and my checkout date falls within the promotional time period, will it count?
Yes, as long as the member or cardmember successfully registers for the promotion by December 1, 2020, their redemption stay will count and they will earn Bonus Points back if they check out between July 8 and January 4, 2021.

I see the 15% back but not 25%. I have the card and I’m logged in.

Steve

I was able to see it off your link, but when I entered my account, it said “You are ineligible for this offer. You can click here to view other available World of Hyatt promotions.” Is it possible this is because I registered last month? (I honestly can’t recall if I did)

Nice to see they extended it! Any idea of previously booked stays (assuming you were registered already) will be automatically credited? Have a Miraval stay booked for November.
