A profitable stack at Dell (sort of)

14

We recently reported a targeted current Amex Offer available on some business cards that is good for 10% back at Dell. Those who found the offer on a Business Platinum card could make out even better since that card offers a twice-annual $100 credit for Dell purchases (subject to registration, available once between January and June and once between July and December). You could currently do some stacking with those discounts that turns at least one deal into a money-maker kinda/sorta (it’s a dubious claim since you’re getting paid back in part with your own money, but makes for a good deal anyway).

I’ve been keeping an eye on deals.dell.com for back-to-school deals and one deal came up this week that could be particularly good if you have any use for a new 24″ monitor. The Dell SE2419H monitor is currently on sale for $133 — and it comes with a $50 Visa Gift Card. I believe the gift card is issued by Metabank, so it should be easy enough to get nearly cash value out of that ($49 at least, anyway).

If you shop through a portal, you can currently get 4% cash back ($5.32). Then you’d also get 10% back if targeted for the Amex Offer ($13.30). If you also qualify for the $100 Dell credit on the Business Platinum and you’re able to liquidate the Visa Gift Card for $49, it turns into a decent win. Here are the total rebates:

$100.00 (Business Platinum benefit)
$13.30 (Amex Offer)
$  5.32 (Portal)
  $49.00 (VGC liquidated at a cost of $1)
$167.62

As you can see, that’s $167.62 back for an outlay of $132 (plus tax) — and you’ll also have a 24″ monitor.

Of course, $100 of that is “your money” in the sense that you already paid it out in the form of the annual fee. Still, not bad getting that back plus some and getting the monitor. Whether you need the monitor yourself or intend to give it as a gift or donate it, this looks like a decent deal to me.

On the other hand, it certainly may be worth holding out for holiday deals and/or a higher portal rate. I think this deal makes more sense for someone who anticipates that they may not keep their card through the holiday season.
