Application Tips

Chase Application Tips

  • Shut-Down Caution: Signing up for new Chase cards can lead to Chase reviewing your accounts. This may lead to Chase shutting down all of your accounts if you appear to be a credit risk. See this post for details and recommendations: Why Chase shutdowns have increased and how to avoid them.
  • 5/24 Rule: With most Chase cards, you won't get approved if your credit report shows 5 or more cards opened in the past 24 months. Details here.
  • 24/48 Month Rule: With most Chase cards, you can get the same card and bonus again 24 months after having received the bonus as long as you no longer have the card open. With Sapphire cards, you must wait 48 months. No wait is required for Chase Ink cards.
  • 30 Day Rule: It is tough to get approved for more than 2 Chase cards within 30 days
  • Get Same Card Again: You can get the same exact card and again if you first cancel the older card and follow the 24/48 month rule. Ink cards are OK to get again without cancelling previous card if you apply with a new business.
  • Better Offers: You may be able to get a better offer than the best available public offer. Details here.
  • Hard inquiries combine into 1 when approved same day (not always true when mixing business and personal)

I signed up like a month ago for the 100k offer, do you think they would match to 125k? I’ve done it before on an ink card but not sure if anyone has data points on these types of cards.

Susan

I just tried and they would not match it. I applied and was approved for the United biz card: 100k miles/5k spend/$95 fee literally 9 days before the new offer came out.

Jillian

The link to the 100K offer for the United Business card no longer works. I’m seeing “NoticeThe page you requested has either moved or no longer exists. If you would like to Refer a Friend, click the link to start referring.”
Is there another link you can provide?

Frank

The United Business Card is only 50,000 miles, not 75,000.

Kirk

I believe this 50k mile offer is NOT the best ever; I believe it was 75k in May 2023.

Blase

Can you describe what “Unlocks complimentary elite upgrades on award tickets” means? I don’t really see additional details on the application page.

Nick Reyes

Elite members are entitled to complimentary upgrades (space-dependent) on revenue fares (on domestic flights), but elite members (i.e. Silver, Gold, 1K, etc) are not entitled to complimentary upgrades on award tickets — unless they have this card. If they have this card, they would enjoy their normal upgrade priority on award flights also. Again, that’s no guarantee of being upgraded, it just means that it is possible.

Phong

Honestly this card almost seems like a keeper with just the 5,000 points alone. United points worth about 1.3 cents each right? So $65 alone for 99 annual fee.

Quinn

The (888) 338-2586 number in the article above asks you to enter your card number before getting a rep on the phone. So, I don’t think it’s for checking application status.

Captain Greg

Hmmm, tempting offer for big points and I’m getting better at creating spend these days. Any reason the FM team haven’t really discussed this offer?

How long do you think this offer will be available?

Nick Reyes

Until 4/2/20 (it shows the date on the application page).

jeph36

I notice the offer is still available with no shenanigans and we passed the Apr 02 date. I did not see an expiration date on the page any more, but maybe I missed it. Any idea what the new expiration date is on this offer?
