Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
Update: The SavorOne card has been product-changed and is now the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards card.
~~~
The Capital One SavorOne card typically features a mediocre welcome offer, but the card offers unlimited 3% rewards on dining, entertainment, streaming services and grocery stores with no annual fee. That’s terrific. Even better, if you have a card that earns Capital One miles (like the Venture or Venture X), you can convert cash back rewards earned on a SavorOne card to Capital One “miles” at a rate of $0.01 = 1 mile, unlocking the ability to transfer to C1’s travel partners. Should this card be in your wallet?
Capital SavorOne Rewards Review
Like the almost identical Savor card (which has a $95 annual fee) the Capital One SavorOne is a great pick for those who spend a lot on dining, entertainment and grocery; particularly if you’re willing to pair this card with a Capital One Miles-earning card. The only difference between the two is that the SavorOne earns 1%/1x less than the regular Savor on dining, entertainment and streaming. However, it’s probably still the better option for most people long-term, as you’d have to spend $9500 annually in those categories on the Savor card to simply break-even with the $95 annual fee.
The Savor card usually has a slightly better welcome offer, which would make it tempting to start there and then downgrade to the SavorOne. However, Capital One tends to be inconsistent in terms of offering upgrade and downgrade options, so you may need to sacrifice a bit on the welcome offer if you’d prefer to have the SavorOne in your wallet.
- Annual Fee: $0
- Authorized User Annual Fee: Free
- Foreign Transaction Fee: None
- What points are worth: The Capital One SavorOne Rewards card earns cash back, which can be redeemed for a statement credit at face value. However, if you have a miles-earning Capital One card, you can move rewards to your miles card at a 1:1 ratio and then transfer to travel partners. Our current Reasonable Redemption Value for Capital One miles is 1.45 cents each, so you get better value when you combine the SavorOne with a miles-earning card.
- Best Use for Points: Converting rewards to Capital One Miles will usually yield the most value if you have that option available, as they can then be transferred to travel partners at a 1:1 ratio. Our favorite hotel transfer partner is probably Wyndham Rewards, because of the terrific redemptions that can be had with Vacasa Vacation Rentals. Airline partners can be an excellent value as well, and include Air Canada Aeroplan, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, British Airways Avios and Turkish Miles and Smiles.
- Earning Categories:
- 10% back on Uber/Uber Eats (through 11/14/24)
- 8% back on Capital One Entertainment purchases
- 5% back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital one Travel
- 3% back on dining, entertainment, grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart) and popular streaming services
- 1% back everywhere else
- Additional Perks:
- No foreign transaction fee: The ability to earn strong bonus categories in dining and grocery while abroad and without incurring a transaction fee should make this card appealing to those who frequently spend in those categories in foreign countries.
- Free UberOne membership: Get complimentary Uber One membership via statement credits (through 11/14/2024).
- Purchase Protections:
- Extended Warranty: One additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less (US warranties only).
- Who’s this card for? Folks who spend a lot on dining, entertainment and grocery, but not enough in dining/entertainment to justify the $95 annual fee on the regular Savor Rewards card.
- Is the Capital One SavorOne Rewards credit card a keeper? The SavorOne card is a great fit for most people, given that it earns 3% back on grocery, dining, entertainment, and streaming services…all with no annual fee. This could make it a keeper card, especially if you are willing to pair it with a rewards-earning card like the Capital One Venture or Venture X.
Capital One SavorOne Pros and Cons
Pros
- Earns very good (and unlimited) category bonuses on dining, entertainment, streaming, and grocery purchases.
- Cash back rewards can be converted to miles by moving rewards if you have a miles-earning card, making the bonus categories effectively 3x on dining, entertainment, streaming and grocery.
- No annual fee
Cons
- Only 1% back on purchases outside of the bonus categories, which is not a competitive rewards rate
- Can be difficult to get approvals for multiple Capital One cards
